Ref 44 - 708
A unique opportunity to help operate a predominantly steam railway in the Highlands. You could learn the necessary skills to drive or fire a steam locomotive (or drive a diesel). If the heavier activities of the footplate have no appeal, or are perhaps beyond your physical capabilities, then acting as train guard may well suit.
The duties of a guard are to ensure the safety and comfort of the fare paying public whilst on the train, preparation of the train and control of the train in conjuction with footplate and station staff. Duties of fireman are to raise and maintain steam pressure by skillful firing and control of boiler water level. Train drivers control the engine so as to ensure the safety and comfort of the travelling public.
