Nairn Air Cadets - Administator

Ref 44 - 1880

The Air Cadet Organisation (ACO) is one of the UK's leading youth development organisations for both young men and women in the 13-18 years age range.
As part of that, the local Squadron has been contributing to the community in Nairn since 1941 and continues to thrive with a membership of over 25 cadets.
The organisation is not a recruiting arm of the Royal Air Force, although it seeks to create interest in the Service and in aviation in general.  In delivering to its motto "Venture Adventure" the CDO also seeks to provide training which will be useful both in the Services and in civilian life, to foster a spirit of adventure and to develop qualities of leadership in young people.

The Commanding Officer (CO) provides the leadership for all of this and is assisted in its delivery by other uniformed and civilian staff.  Associated with his running the Squadron, there is a considerable amount of administration to do with looking after the cadets, delivering the academic training, keeping records, making reports, organising activities and relating to other parts of the ACO.
Much of this routine and entirely recognisable to anyone who has worked in either commerce or the public sector.  The Administrator makes a most important contribution by dealing with most of this, referring matters to the CO or other members of staff as necessary.

The Administrator helps the CO run the Squadron by dealing with routine adminstration, correspondence and filing.

The volunteer should be a well-organised individual capable of working in a structured manner and with sufficient confidence and judgement to make decisions given suitable training.  They should have a good understanding of the need for confidentiality and a willingness to consolidate that with training and demonstrated proficency on information security.  A reasonable proficiency in MS Office is required along with sufficient aptitude towards IT systems, in general terms, to become familiar with the ACO's internal BADER suite.
Experience in office management or similar post would be most helpful but is not essential provided there is a willingness to learn.  Whilst some insight to the military would also be a bonus it is certainly not essential.
