Consumer Network Member - Scottish Consumer Council

Ref 40 - 332

Scotland's foremost consumer organisation is looking for people to join a national network to ensure that the voice of consumers is heard.  You can do this opportunity in your own home at a time that suits you best - it needs about 2 hrs every 2 months.

We ask our volunteers to send us information three times a year about any problems they face in their day-to-day lives, or things that affect their local community. For example, they may be concerned about food safety issues, lack of access to an NHS dentist, or the level of service provided by a bus company or their local council. Information from our volunteers is circulated to all staff within the SCC so that they know what is important to people. This helps us to do our job at a national level by researching, campaigning and working with other organisations for improvements.
From time to time we also ask our volunteers to help with small research projects.  Recently, volunteers have given their opinions on the length of time health records may be kept, how easy it is to recycle in their area and some members took part in a 'mystery shopping exercise'  on meat labeling.
The opportunity is home-based and the time commitment is small, perhaps two hours or so every couple of months.  We do appreciate it if volunteers can respond reasonably regularly.  Volunteers will not be out of pocket - any expenses such as phone calls or travel costs are reimbursed.  Volunteers do not have to wait for us to send them a questionnaire - they can contact us at any time.

(Questionnaires are completed at home and if members are asked to take part in a mystery shopping activity then it will be in their own local authority area.)
