Befriender and One off Support - Sight Action, Inverness

Ref 40 - 1150

To provide support to people so that their social isolation can be reduced. Assisting 'befriendees', going shopping, socialising, attending appointments or maybe in people's homes so their confidence can be built up before 'venturing' out.

Potential volunteers will be given the opportunity to attend one of the support group meetings to experience working with the client goup. After successful completion of the application form and taking up of references volunteers will then commence the training course. There will be basic induction, information regarding the volunteers 'handbook' basic visual awareness and guided training, Befrienders training and first aid.  Completion of an advanced disclosure will also be taken up at the same time as the training commences. It is important to note that the training will be delivered throughout the volunteer's time with Sight Action. There will be varying levels of sighted guiding and visual awarness training and emergency first aid are examples of the training that will happen at the begining of the volunteer's journey.

(Initially Inverness and surrounding areas.
All reasonable volunteer's expenses are re-imbursed. Sight Action pays a mileage allowance of 40p per mile)
